Beginner’s Luck

Having never created a blog or blog post in my Gen X life, I’m prepared for this to be learning by the occasional failure and hiccup. After reviewing the resources in class this week, I’ve realized that one of the ways I learn best is simply by diving in and getting to work, correcting missteps as I go. I hope this proves helpful to you as well as to me!
I’ve located three bloggers whose content engaged me right away. Some sites are more robust than others, but I found value in each. I searched for resources containing content relevant to corporate training, adult learning, leadership development, and virtual learning. I also wanted to find a wide perspective between experienced and novice bloggers while maintaining a depth of content-area experience.
First, I’ve embedded Instructional Design by Shakiyla Huggins. This new author only has one post, but the design of the entire page is engaging, well-constructed, and flows easily. As a trainer and educator of adults, I’m always looking for ways to use gamification without causing the learning experience to feel too childish. Her use of references and explanations of theory tied to practice impressed me. I can learn from and possibly with this author, and I look forward to future blog posts.
Having found a fellow “beginning blogger” who had content relevant to me, I searched for a more professional example. I found one at https://rutraining.org/. The Roosevelt University of Chicago hosts this page, which includes blog posts and other content directed towards those enrolled in the graduate-level Training & Development program offered by that institution. The posts are relevant and timely and offer some questions after each post, designed to promote further consideration and responses from the reader.
Finally, the third blog I’ve chosen is also relatively new. However, the author has built a brand for leadership development and corporate training that perfectly aligns with what I do now at my employer and what I hope to do in the future. Based on their 20 years of experience in HR, talent development, and instruction, this blogger will fill more of a “distance mentor” role as I navigate this program and my changing workplace.
I’m excited to engage with these bloggers and my classmate’s blogs as we share original, relevant content.
Social media without the memes. Who could have ever imagined?
