Many folks entered the training world from a non-educational background. They were SMEs or supervisors, and displayed an aptitude for sharing information and engaging students, but they may not have any formal preparatory training in “how to teach”. Maybe they did well, maybe they struggled, but in-class interactions were always there to smooth things out, cement understanding, and more consistently attain organizational objectives.

Then, this crazy thing happened on the way to April 2020.

Suddenly, around the world, training took on a new and unfamiliar face. Learning was, like the rest of society, at a distance. Trainers were using software they’d never heard of, navigating things like “Zoom fatigue”, and learning the importance of a mute button.

Remote work, and remote training, are here to stay in some capacity. Trainers are still being pulled from the ranks of SMEs. So how is a newly minted instructor to convert in-class activities (perhaps developed by a predecessor with little experience as well) into quality distance education?

I’ve created a short booklet to help! It’s not at all the end-all be-all guide to flipping a class, but hopefully, the guidance and resources it contains can point a newbie trainer in the right directions. Enjoy!
